Controlling the fenton reaction in wine.
The fate of hydrogen peroxide in a model wine system was studied under a competitive scenario in the presence of ferrous ions and sulfur dioxide. The metal-catalyzed reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)), referred to as the Fenton reaction, yields hydroxyl radicals capable of oxidizing ethanol to acetaldehyde and is now thought to be a key step in nonenzymatic wine oxidation. It appears tha...
متن کاملAdvances in Fenton and Fenton Based Oxidation Processes for Industrial Effluent Contaminants Control-A Review
The global concern about alternative water reuse techniques are increasing continuously as heavy industries such as petrochemicals and agricultures grows bigger each year. Those organic pollutants present in wastewaters which are not treatable by conventional treatment methods, are considered to be treated by stronger and more modern techniques. The presence of these organic compounds in water ...

The Greenidge Multi-Pollutant Control Project is being conducted at the 107-MW AES Greenidge Unit 4 as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Power Plant Improvement Initiative (PPII) to demonstrate an innovative combination of technologies that is well-suited for reducing emissions from the nation’s large fleet (~60 GW) of smaller coal-fired units. The technologies, which include a NOxO...

In gammaproteobacteria ROS are not exclusively responsible for the activity of bactericidal compounds. Future research is required to determine whether the high-valence FeO2+ formed in the presence of bactericidal compounds enhances killing in addition to the direct inhibition of cell-wall assembly, protein synthesis or interference with DNA metabolism.
متن کاملOxygen evolution reaction electrocatalyzed on a Fenton-treated gold surface.
Hydroxyl radicals arising from the Fenton reagent remove metastable surface gold atoms (low coordinated high-energy surface atoms) on the Au surface, thus precluding the formation of stable oxides. The resultant smooth surface, upon hydroxyl-radical activation, electrocatalyzes oxygen evolution reaction in 0.1 M NaOH at overpotentials lowered by 190 mV @ 10 mA cm(-2).
